Social Media and Entertainment

In this week’s blog, I would like to focus on something that sparks my interest, and I hope it sparks yours as well! Something I learned today in my Social Media Campaigns class.I will be exploring different specializations in social media. You may wonder what this means, so I’ll explain as I go.

There are four main areas to discuss, those being: sports, entertainment, crisis communication and journalism. These fields all use social media to their advantage, and in a variety of different ways.

Mainly I will go into detail about entertainment, because I find that category is the most appealing to me. And I would like to say the reason for that. I decided to pick entertainment because it seems like the most exciting/interesting option and it seems like there’s not as much pressure or things to worry about in comparison to crisis communication or sports, or even journalism. When covering the entertainment area, what I would need to focus on is to raise awareness of brands, create hype for upcoming competitions, tv shows, individuals, sports figures and events. That seems like something I could really get into and succeed at.

Now I will identify the areas in which social media can be applied. Social media is a really cool thing, it has the power to reach virtually everyone, make an impact/impression on people, and spread all kinds of information, as well as way to advertise, and is a hub for communication. Each area of entertainment has utilized social media to its advantage by raising awareness of brands and by creating hype for upcoming competitions, television shows, events, individuals, and sports figures as I mentioned before. In contrast, some celebrities use social media not to be constantly active/engaged, but to create some mystery. Loyal fans are crucial to have on social media and be behind your brand. It’s important to be aware of trolls.

I hope you learned a little bit from the information I just learned, I’m glad I could share. Thanks for reading! Next week is my last blog already, time has really flown by. I’ll see you then!

Here is the link to the slideshow where I got my information.
